House of Cards
Charles and Ray Eames’s designs embrace films, environments, furniture and toys. Their furniture designs are modern classics. Among their toys, the House of Cards is a universal favorit
This 54 card Picture Deck was first produced in 1952. The images are of what the Eameses called “good stuff” chosen to celebrate “familiar and nostalgic objects from the animal, mineral, and vegetable kingdoms.” The six slots on each card enable the player to interlock the cards so as to build structures in myriad shapes and sizes.
The work of Charles and Ray Eames reflects their conviction that good design embraces both beauty & utility and can be achieved and found in everyday objects and events. The Eames House of Cards demonstrates this belief with great immediacy. I welcome you to share in it.
